Well, just another typical night at the Long-Gardiner house. I finished up the majority of my Christmas shopping (woot woot), started some more crafty stuff (I better wait until after Christmas to show you these crafts though…since one is for my mom and one is for my grandma and you never know, they may read my blog), and then made a YUMMY dinner! When all was done, I EVEN had time to watch a cheesy Lifetime movie. Overall, it was a great night.
So, one of my very favorite things to make and to eat is pasta. I am really not picky about which type of pasta…I just love it all! I think it must be because I am at least 1/10th Italian ;)
Last night I made one of my go to recipes. This pasta is super simple to make, but it is like crack--if you don’t want to be addicted, I suggest that you just don’t make it or try it!
Ingredients
· ½ pound hot Italian sausage - you can use regular if you don’t like hot
· 1 pound ground beef
· ½ an onion diced
· 1 or 2 gloves of garlic mined - I love garlic so I use 2 or 3 :)
· 2 teaspoons or Italian seasoning
· 10-12 large basil leaves cut into ribbons - getting fresh basil is essential
· I can diced Italian style tomatoes
· 1 cup whole cream
· 1 box of your favorite pasta - or if you are trying to be fancy get fresh pasta or make your own
· Salt and pepper to taste
· Grated Parmesan cheese for topping
Directions
Follow the instructions on your pasta and boil to al dente. While the pasta is cooking, brown your Italian sausage, ground beef, onions and garlic in a skillet. When almost done, drain the grease (this step is not necessary, but it is probably a good idea). Return your meat mixture to the pan and add your Italian seasoning, salt and pepper, and diced tomatoes. Let simmer for about 5 minutes. Turn the heat to low and add in your cream. Let the cream simmer for about 5 minutes. Drain your pasta and ad into the sauce. Stir in the fresh basil. Serve with grated Parmesan cheese and your favorite garlic bread. As you can see, I like my garlic bread with cheese!
Maybe I should make something healthy for dinner tonight, since it seems like we eat like complete cows :) I’ll keep you posted!
